Marktplein is located in the center of Wormerveer and primarily serves day-to-day shopping needs. The shopping district has 15 shops, with the primary magnets being the supermarkets Albert Heijn and SuperCoop. Wormerveer is located in the municipality of Zaanstad, where 150,000 people live. The shopping center is a catchment area for the town of Wormerveer, which has a total of 23,000.

Marktplein Wormerveer is located at the edge of the town’s center, and its accessibility by car is good. The shops are located around a large car park with free parking. A large market is held in the car park once a week, and this generates a great deal of traffic.

There are approximately 200 nearby free parking spaces on the Marktplein. The car park serves as a source facility for Marktplein, as well as for the Wormerveer town center. In a part of the center, there is paid parking for €2.50/hour (maximum fee of €9.00/day). The shopping center consists of two shopping strips that are situated perpendicular to each other on the Marktplein. Apartments are located above the shops. Together, the shopping strips serve to define the square. The center is modern and well maintained.
